Tuesday, August 7th

Your HW for today is:
- Write a paragraph about an athlete you admire. Tell us why they are great!
- Use three gerunds in your paragraph (or more!).
      - Subject
      - Object of Verb
      - Object of Preposition
- Use 4 Vocab words
- Get a cool picture if you can!

Example:
I admire Michael Phelps. I enjoyed watching him swim in the Olympics. Swimming is an exciting sport
and Phelps is always in the fastest lane. He's very competitive. Michael Phelps trains every day for 28 hours and that's why he has so many medals. Sadly, Michael Phelps is talking about quitting professional swimming.

Some extra notes on Gerunds:

***"Admit" -- In US English, we often say "admit + to + gerund" -- For example, "Carey admitted to crashing Zayed's car."

***"Allow" -- Be careful about the difference between "allow" and "be allowed to."
Gerund: The teacher allows drinking coffee in class.
Base Verb: The students are allowed to drink coffee in class.
Note that the first sentence is active and the second is in passive voice.

***"Dislike" is only used with gerunds in US English. We don't use it with infinitives.
